Technical details
Extension of the project:
Underwater Artificial reefs provide hard surfaces where marine invertebrates, such as corals, crustaceans, and oysters attach.
The actual artificial reefs in Barcelona are composed of 2,000 Blocks of rugged concrete with cavities and some concrete slabs scattered around the piers and the ocean, these surfaces are flat and devoid of crevices, reducing the potential for colonizing organisms.

The project consists of laser cut artificial reefs designed for sea walls (piers, olimpic port, etc...)
In order to reduce coastal erosion. built to promote marine life, Improve marine habitat, create new ecosystems
3D-printed or laser cut and made of calcium carbonate, They would Last between 8-10 years underwater and create artificial sites to relieve tourism pressure on natural reefs.

The project aims to get coastal residents more engaged personally with shellfish and seaweed farming, will educate them on the importance of aquafarming in the ecosystem. The goal was to work toward viable solutions to creating shellfish habitat along El Poblenou’s costal area through creative approaches to form a system that positively impact marine life and generates community understanding and engagement. This aquaculture area will not only provide food for the surrounding restaurants, but seaweed culture could provide valuable habitat for wild fish and potentially improve their production by increasing forage, breeding and/or predator refuge habitats
